NTOU Life Distinguished Professor Mu-Der Jeng elected AAIA Fellow

Dr. Mu-Der Jeng was elected AAIA Fellow

      Dr. Mu-Der Jeng (鄭慕德), currently Life Distinguished Professor of the Electrical Engineering Department at National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) was elected Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) Fellow. Dr. Jeng’s contributions to AIoT, embedded systems, and smart cars led to this honor, which is given only to the top researchers worldwide such as National Academy of Sciences members, National Academy of Engineering members, IEEE Fellows, and ACM Fellows.

      Dr. Jeng has been with the NTOU Electrical Engineering Department soon after receiving the Ph.D. degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA in 1992. From 2012 to 2015, he was Chair of the NTOU Electrical Engineering Department.

Dr. Jeng has been with the NTOU Electrical Engineering Department since 1992.

      Besides AAIA Fellow, Dr. Jeng is also an IEEE Fellow since 2007. Dr. Jeng was elected Vice President for Membership and Student Activities of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society during 2006 and 2007, where he served as a member of Board of Governors during 2005 and 2010 (two consecutive terms), and currently serves as Co-Chair of Discrete Event Systems Technical Committee. In the IEEE Robotics and Automation (RA) Society, he served as Founding Chair of Semiconductor Factory Automation Technical Committee during 2001 and 2006. Dr. Jeng serves/served as Associate Editor, Guest Editor, and an editorial board member for several major journals such as IEEE Transactions on SMC, RA, Robotics, and Semiconductor Manufacturing. He has 197 publications including one book, three book chapters, and 74 journal papers.

Dr. Jeng is also an IEEE Fellow since 2007.

      Due to the highly cited work, Dr. Jeng was listed on the most prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2021 and 2022 published by Stanford University and Elsevier BV. Dr. Jeng received many awards and recognitions such as in IEEE SMC and RA Societies, Distinguished Lecturer, Most Active Technical Committee Award, and Franklin V Taylor Outstanding Paper Award. Due to international recognition of his outstanding research, Dr. Jeng was invited as Visiting Scientist at Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in France, École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Metz in France, and Unversité de Metz in France. His research results have been applied to the industry. He has done consulting work for several embedded systems, IPC, PC, and automotive companies in Taiwan since 2008.

      AAIA aims to build a broad AI industry that gathers top scientists in different disciplines that can be combined with AI, AI related institutions, and entrepreneurs that have AI applications to drive innovation, development and application of AI. The main mission of AAIA is to enhance the development and application of artificial intelligence through academic research, academic exchanges, science education, science exhibitions, academic conferences, and academic publications.
