National Taiwan Ocean University and Taiwan Marine Biotechnology Society Collaborate to Create a Smart, Diverse, Healthy, and Sustainable Future for Aquaculture

The 9th Taiwan International Ocean and Fisheries Industry Expo opened with great enthusiasm at the Nangang Exhibition Center. National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) brings numerous research and development achievements every year, leading the wave of blue technology. On September 1st, the NTOU Center of Excellence for the Oceans and the Operation Center for Enterprise-Academia Networking joined hands with the Taiwan Marine Biotechnology Society (臺灣海洋生物技術學會) to host the "Blue Technology: Enabling a Sustainable Future by Intelligent Aquaculture and Diversified Health(藍色科技：打造智慧水產多元健康永續未來)" forum. This collaboration aims to advance forward-looking marine technology applications and make greater contributions to a sustainable future.

Many visitors showed significant interest in NTOU's achievements

During his opening speech, President Tai-Wen Hsu (許泰文) expressed the university's goal of creating a smart, diverse, healthy, and sustainable future for aquaculture, ensuring the sustainable utilization and protection of marine resources. By working closely with industries to translate academic achievements into practical applications, they aim to jointly create a more prosperous and beautiful future. Chief Secretary Zi-Chang Miao (繆自昌) of the Fisheries Agency of the Council of Agriculture, Jennifer Kuo (郭怡君), Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer at Grobest Group Limited, and Kazuo Teshima (手嶋一雄), General Manager of Taiwan Yokohama Hakkeijima Inc.(Xpark), also gave opening speeches at the event.

The forum brought together scholars and experts in the field of marine technology from both domestic and international backgrounds to explore the latest research findings and practical applications in three major areas: diversified health, intelligent aquaculture, and food innovation. In the morning session focusing on diversified health, the forum featured four international experts: Dr. Sami Souissi, Executive Director of SIMARIS Advisory with extensive experience in the field; Dr. Roger Gilbert, Publisher and CEO of Perendale Publishers Limited, a global publisher of food and aquaculture; Mr. Marco Prati, CEO of PLP Systems, known for innovative spray technology; and Ms. Katherine Hawes, Principal Solicitor at Aquarius Lawyers, an expert in marine environmental law.

The afternoon sessions delved into the fields of precision agriculture and food innovation. The speakers included seven experts with extensive practical experience: Mr. Ching-Shan Yang (楊青山), Chairman of King's Ground Biotech Co. Ltd.; Mr. Chih-Hsin Lin (林志欣), Senior Manager at WPD Taiwan Energy Co., Ltd.; Mr. Jeff Chia-Kai Hsu (許家愷), President of Innocreate Bioscience Co., Ltd.; Mr. Hao-Sheng Cheng (鄭顥生), Assistant Manager of the Aquaculture Divison at BiomiXin Co., Ltd.; Mr. Chao-Nan Chen (陳昭男), President of Mifu Industrial; Mr. Stone Tseng (曾隱舜), Chairman of Gugo Enterprise Co., Ltd.; and Ms. Mandy Huang (黃千恬), Sustainability Officer and Spokesperson at TCI CO., LTD.

At Booth J923, students from various schools physically showcased their competition entries based on marine biotechnology research achievements. Additionally, the "NTOU Fresh Marketplace(海大鱻市集)" exhibited products developed by NTOU's proofing center, as well as high-quality seafood products such as grouper, mackerel, and white shrimp produced by three NTOU-derived startup companies. Furthermore, the latest developments and achievements of NTOU teachers and collaborating partners were displayed at Booth K815, featuring over 20 cutting-edge research and development projects. The exhibition, which ran until September 2nd, successfully welcomed numerous businesses and the public for visits and exchanges.
