National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) has maintained close cooperation with industries and is regarded as the preferred partner by domestic shipping companies. In the recently announced "The Year 2023 First-Class Seafarer Examination"(112年第二次航海人員測驗) results, NTOU's candidates ranked first nationwide. On July 12th, NTOU held a donation ceremony to express gratitude to Wan Hai Lines Ltd.(萬海航運) for donating teaching equipment to NTOU and its affiliated Keelung Maritime Senior High School(MHOU), with the aim of upgrading and updating teaching laboratories and adding practical onboard equipment. The total amount of the donation is nearly NT$7.4 million.

The donated equipment includes updates for the Electrical Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Marine Engineering, which offers courses in power electronic technology, Arduino microcontroller applications, and programmable logic controller (PLC) learning. Additionally, the Maritime Training and Development Center's engine room teaching equipment and space renovation will be enhanced. MHOU will acquire gas welding equipment and related materials for its marine engineering department. These donations will enable students to cultivate practical skills and problem-solving abilities, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, thus enhancing the effectiveness of learning and aligning with industry practices.

Tommy Hsieh(謝福隆), General Manager of Wan Hai Lines Ltd., recognized NTOU and MHOU for their track record of fostering exceptional talents. Currently, 163 NTOU graduates serve as crew members in Wan Hai's fleet, and many alumni hold key positions within the company's onshore teams. Hsieh encouraged students to enhance their foreign language skills, emphasizing its importance for international integration. He also highlighted Wan Hai Lines Ltd.'s commitment to technological advancement, exemplified by their fleet modernization efforts, including the acquisition of 68 new vessels over the past four years. Additionally, NTOU has launched an undergraduate program focusing on further studies in merchant marine and marine engineering, featuring bilingual instruction to meet international standards and industry requirements.
