National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) and the University of the West (UWest) in the United States have been engaged in long-term academic cooperation and exchange. So far, there have been 9 exchange students from NTOU's College of Maritime Science and Management or College of Ocean Law and Policy studying at UWest. Dr. Minh-Hoa Ta, President of UWest, visited NTOU on May 30th and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further enhance cooperation in student recruitment and management studies. The discussion also focused on the planning of 2+2 and 3+1 dual-degree programs, aiming to create a brighter future in the maritime field together.

The MOU was signed by President Tai-Wen Hsu of NTOU and President Minh-Hoa Ta of UWest. In addition to short-term exchanges and summer camps, the collaboration will provide students with opportunities for international study and dual-degree programs. President Tai-Wen Hsu expressed during the meeting that NTOU has accumulated years of experience in maritime academics and industry management. Through collaboration with UWest, students will not only gain knowledge and skills in business management but also cultivate attitudes and values suitable for leadership and service in the global community. They will become professionals with solid technical knowledge, skills, and a strong sense of moral responsibility. NTOU will also strive to secure tuition discounts and scholarships for the students.

Located in Rosemead, California, UWest is just a half-hour drive from downtown Los Angeles and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The university attracts students from around the world, representing over 44 countries/regions. UWest is a member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and was ranked between 168th and 222nd in the U.S. News & World Report's Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the United States in 2022.
