NTOU Aquaculture Professors Win 19th National Innovation Award

TABT won the award

National Taiwan Ocean University professors Chang-Wen Huang(黃章文,) Hong-Yi Gong(龔紘毅,) and Te-Hua Hsu(徐德華) from the Department of Aquaculture formed Taiwan Aqua Breeding Team (TABT.) TABT’s research on Aquaculture Precision Breeding won the 19th National Innovation Award(第十九屆國家新創獎.)

The technique of TABT is a molecular characterization method for new strains of Taiwan Tilapia. Through genome sequence comparison, TABT developed the molecular markers representing disease tolerance, cold tolerance, and salt tolerance successfully. This method distinguished whether the target strain is stress-tolerant, and could be applied to genetic evaluation.

Taiwan Tilapia. precision breeding

TABT’s technique reduced fish consumption in traditional selection and shortened the breeding cycle of specific traits. Within the trend of sustainable economy and food safety, TABT’s dedication to precision breeding strengthened the advantage of Taiwan Tilapia in the international market.
