Delegation from Isabela State University Visits NTOU, Focuses on Aquatic Science Research and Industry-Academia Collaboration

To strengthen partnerships with key institutions in the Asia-Pacific region in the fields of fisheries and marine sciences, National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) welcomed a visiting delegation from Isabela State University (ISU), Philippines, along with its partner organizations earlier this month. A focused academic roundtable was held on the afternoon of May 2 in the 3rd-floor conference room of the Administration Building, facilitating in-depth academic dialogue and exchange.

The delegation was led by Prof. Isagani P. Angeles Jr., Dean of the College of Fisheries at ISU, and included representatives from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), as well as the Chairperson of the Philippine Tilapia Association. The visit centered on key topics such as tilapia breeding in Taiwan, innovations in aquafeed, eel research, and sustainable aquaculture technologies.

Arriving in Taiwan at the end of April, the delegation engaged in a four-day exchange program. On May 1, they visited several academic and research units at NTOU, including the Office of International Affairs, the Department of Aquaculture, the Department of Food Science, and the Department of Life Science and Biotechnology. Through these visits, they gained insights into NTOU’s research and achievements in areas such as fry cultivation, water quality testing, feed development, and food safety, while engaging in direct discussions with faculty experts.

The official roundtable on May 2 featured presentations and discussions on topics including eel and tilapia research advancements, Aquafeed 3.0 technologies, the use of herbal carbon solutions in aquaculture, and adaptive breeding for fish species under extreme climate conditions. Through the exchange of expertise and ideas, both parties actively explored future opportunities for joint international research projects, faculty exchange, and industry-academia collaboration.

Prof. Yu-Wei Chang, Dean of International Affairs at NTOU, remarked that this deep exchange with ISU and its Philippine partners not only promotes academic cooperation and applied industry-academia development, but also lays a solid foundation for expanding NTOU’s international research impact. NTOU will continue to strengthen connections with leading institutions in fisheries and marine sciences worldwide, contributing to the sustainable development of global aquaculture.
